What is it?
Google Apps for a domain, in this case mit.edu, is a service provided by Google that allows members of an educational institution or business to collaborate with each other, separate from their personal Google accounts. Google Apps for a domain offers a subset of Google services to registered users. In the case of Google Apps for MIT.EDU, currently available services are Google Docs, Calendar, and Sites.
Note: MIT is still developing full integration and account management for MIT Google Apps.

Known issues with MIT Google Apps
1. A shared Google Doc links me to the MIT.EDU login page
If Google Apps for a particular domain exists, Google will include a login and share link to Google Apps for that domain regardless of whether you have and use and account at that Google Apps domain, unless it knows that your address is associated with another Google account. There are several workarounds if you would prefer to share the document with your personal Google account. Check How can I use a Google sharing link with my personal Google account?
2. Self-service sign-up is no longer available for Google Apps for mit.edu
In current versions of Google Apps for domains, self-service account signup is not available from Google. (It was only available in their un-administered "Teams Edition," now discontinued.) Please see [How can I sign up for Google Apps for MIT.EDU?]
3. My MIT email address was removed from my personal Google account!
To prevent this from happening existing MIT Google Apps accounts were renamed. However, you can still encounter it if you sign up for MIT Google Apps and request a nickname that's the same as your MIT username. The reason behind this is that in Google's upgraded Apps infrastructure an account email address can only exist in one place. You cannot use it for both Google Apps and a personal Google account. If a conflict is found Google will give precedence to your Google Apps account and remove the address from your personal Google account.
4. Accessibility to users with disabilities
Google Apps do not include all the accessibility features required to allow some users with disabilities to easily collaborate. While Google Accessibility is working to improve the user experience, we do not currently recommend Google apps be used for study or work group collaborative tasks as doing so may exclude the participation of some. Google provides documentation on the accessibility features they have included in their apps and the IS&T Accessibility team is available for questions regarding accessible alternatives or workarounds
